Meet  Dr. Murphy

I'm Dr. Murphy, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHC-S) with a deep passion for guiding individuals toward healing, growth, and self-acceptance.

I’ve spent years walking alongside clients as they navigate trauma, emotional pain, and life transitions — and every step has reinforced what I know to be true: healing is possible when you're seen, heard, and supported with care.

My journey as a therapist began with a strong academic foundation. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Central University, followed by a Master’s in Counseling from Webster University. I later completed my Doctorate in Education at Fayetteville State University, allowing me to expand my understanding of people, systems, and how we learn and grow.

But beyond the degrees and credentials, what drives me most is connection. I created Synergy Care & Counseling to offer more than therapy — I envisioned a space where people could safely explore who they are and align that with who they’re becoming.

Who I Work With

I work with women and college-aged females who are ready to prioritize their healing, reconnect with themselves, and release the pressure to keep it all together.

Many of my clients are used to being the strong one — managing high expectations, juggling multiple roles, and showing up for everyone else while quietly putting their own needs aside. Over time, that can lead to exhaustion, anxiety, and feeling unseen or misunderstood.

While in session, we’ll work to unlearn the belief that strength means self-neglect. We'll make room for rest, self-compassion, and a more balanced way of living. Through this process, we aim to restore Synergy!

I also support College students navigating both the visible and invisible pressures of academic life — from grades and deadlines to identity, family expectations, and a sense of belonging. You might be the first in your family to attend college, or managing responsibilities at home while trying to hold it together on campus. You may feel the need to overachieve just to prove you belong.

I help clients:

  • Manage anxiety and constant overthinking

  • Work through perfectionism and self-imposed pressure

  • Set healthy, guilt-free boundaries

  • Find space for rest and healing

No matter where you're starting, you don’t have to carry it all alone. You're allowed to slow down, let go, and begin healing — one step at a time.

Specialties and Techniques

I specialize in trauma-informed therapy for teens and adults, using approaches that are both compassionate and evidence-based. Whether you're working through painful past experiences or navigating daily stress, we’ll focus on restoring balance and building resilience together.

My methods include:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): Helps reprocess distressing memories and reduce their emotional impact.

  • TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy): Supports teens and adults in reframing unhelpful thoughts and regaining a sense of control.
